Our Mind The Reservoir of Purity
Purity begins in the mind, in the way we think. The entire appearance of an individual may be without reproach; but, if the mind is defiled, that person is unclean. Jesus Christ described this state of life perfectly. “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity” (Matthew 23:27-28). If your mind is full of dead menÂ’s bones, there is no possibility of the joy of the Lord.
The church world has its share of souls with unclean minds. They always come in two extremes. We have those that are self-righteous. They see nothing but the external reflections and weaknesses, and they spend their days discussing others. We also have those that live loose and careless and have no solid convictions about the great standards of Biblical Holiness. Both of these extremes are unclean and destructive. They develop from the absence of a pure, sanctified mind. We are desperate to pray for the “mind of Christ” in us by the ministry of the Holy Ghost.
Our mind is the source of a river. If that river is pure, it will be a river of living water exploding in joy and purity. The mind and heart is the seat of the Holy Ghost in a surrendered life. The Spirit comes to sit at the throne of your whole person and baptizes the mind until it is a reservoir of Spiritual life. Apostle Paul called this river, “joy unspeakable and full of glory.” “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:” (I Peter 1:8). Jesus called it glory. “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (John 17:22-23).
When you see the mind as the source of a river, good or bad, it should make you ready to have a pure, Holy Ghost preserved mind. This world is profoundly unclean. Ten minutes in a shopping center makes me feel the need for a bath. Less time than that in front of the television does even worse. Unclean images are extremely destructive to the mind. It is impossible not to encounter uncleanness, but you must have a Holy Ghost filter. The Blood of Jesus is the weapon that the Spirit uses to constantly purify our minds.
David prayed, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11). It’s a war in the spiritual realm that we all are encountering. Apostle Paul warned us of this dark realm that we face every day. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). He adds to the “armor” that we must wear, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” (Ephesians 6:18). If you do not understand that it’s a war, you are likely to lose.
One of the great truths that the Son of God gave us speaks volumes to this subject. He identified the “mind” and called it the “eye” of the soul, spirit, and body. Read this carefully: “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6:22-23). Either light or darkness rushes out of your life depending on the “eye or mind.” If the eye is light, light and its joy fill the whole person. If it’s darkness, the darkness fills the whole person.
Hospitals and mental wards are filled with the results of “darkness in the mind.” The drug industry would suffer a magnanimous loss if America could have a Holy Ghost revival. If the Lord can find a company of saints ready to be pure in their minds and they would allow that river of Holy Ghost life to sweep their world, this revival will transform many lives. I’m getting ready. Please join me.
