Grace And Our High Priest
There is no place where Grace is more beautiful or Triumphant than in the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. All the victory and glory of His death and resurrection is evident when the Son Of God goes to the Father for us. He is seated ar the Father’s right hand and he feels our burdens. “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4: 14-15) One of the most beautiful things about the perfect Word of God is how the great truths are dramatized for us.
Stephen is our example for our understanding of Christ’s Priesthood. Stephen was being stoned to death. His offence was preaching the Gospel to angry Jewish leaders. As they stoned him he looked up and saw the Lord. “But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God…”(Acts 7:55) Jesus’ normal position is seated, but the dare circumstance called for special concern. The Son Of God stood and I am sure that has happened many times since. What marvelous compassion our Lord has for His children.
